Story

In Guji, the ripe cherries are amazingly red and easy to pick. Despite this, we had a lot of challenges in Megadu this year because of a shortage of farm laborers. This lack of workers lost us quite a bit of harvest, as we were forced to leave many of the ripe cherries unpicked.

Sometimes when ripe cherries fall to the ground we can blend those into lower-quality lots, but for Premiere anaerobic lots like this one we are careful to use only freshly picked, perfectly ripe cherries, so we did our best with the amount we were able to harvest.

For fermentation, we used the coffee pulp juice left over from lots 25.12 and 25.13. This combination created a different, but equally delicious, profile, and we’re very proud of the exquisite results we got despite all the challenges.

Transforming communities

We are rooted in our communities and committed to building a positive and sustainable future by educating and creating equal opportunity jobs at our own facilities.

By distributing climate-resistant seedlings and providing "learning by doing" programs for children and adults, we facilitate our communities to transform their futures. We are honored to work with local chiefs, community leaders, and smallholder farmers to grow and source our spectacular Bette Buna coffees.

At our farms in Taferi Kela-Sidamo and Guji-Megadu we work closely with our family and neighbours to grow seedlings, rewild coffee forests, and train farmers in methods of growing and processing that create opportunities for everyone in our community.
